What TEAS exam score do I need for nursing school?

In general, a score between 59% and 79% would normally be considered “proficient”. At this level, you are regarded to have the necessary nursing knowledge, and most are qualified to attend medical school programs. In addition, a score between 80%-100% is considered “advanced” and “exemplary”. Of course, achieving a score above 80% is always the aspiration of every TEAS test candidate. The higher your score, the better your chances of getting into high-quality programs, or more attractive career opportunities. By contrast, if you score less than 58%, it means that you have trouble with your nursing knowledge, and will need more consolidation for achieving progress in this field. However, what is the TEAS test score needed for nursing school? What is a passing score on the TEAS test? In reality, there is no exact particular score that is considered “good”. Whether a grade is considered good or not depends on many numerous factors, especially the regulations of the school where you apply.

TEAS proficient score

You will be considered a “top score” if your TEAS score range is from 78.0% to 100%. This score indicates that you have a solid knowledge of health sciences-associated knowledge. Students with this score will be qualified to work professionally and do not need any additional related certification requirements. When you have a proficient score on TEAS, you almost have an absolute advantage over other competitors.

Competitive TEAS test scores

The “Competitive score” is a TEAS test score range from about 59% to 77%. At this level, students are expected to have a general understanding of the nursing field and be eligible to attend nursing schools or enter the workforce. However, you also need to absorb more advanced knowledge to improve your specialized ability.

Less competitive TEAS test scores

How to read TEAS test results?

After completing the test, candidates will receive a TEAS score report on the percentage of correct answers on your test. However, the time to receive the report will vary, depending on the exam format you choose. To be more specific, you can receive your score as soon as you complete the final answer in case you take the test via electronic formats. On the contrary, if you take the paper exam, you need to wait longer to receive the results. The reason behind this waiting time is that your test will be sent to ATI testing for grading.

In the TEAS score report, there will be 3 different parameters:

  • Total Score: This is the overall score for your entire test. It will assess your overall capacity.
  • Content Area Score: This is a score calculated specifically for independent sections. You can rely on it to know your strengths, weaknesses as well as additional knowledge.
  • Sub-Content Area Score: This is the score calculated for the sub-categories in the test.

Note: The total score of the test does not represent the average TEAS test score of the 4 sections. Each section will have a different score.

The difference in the TEAS test score report compared to other tests is in the special score parameters. Specifically, the TEAS report will provide more national mean score, program mean score, national percentile rank, and program percentile rank. The National Mean Score will compare your score with the scores of other candidates across the country/state/territory. It helps you have a view of your ability compared to other competitors. Meanwhile, the National Percentile Rank reflects the percentage of candidates whose scores are high/equal/lower than your score.

The Program Mean Score is the total score of the test takers divided by the average. However, this score will only be calculated within a particular test program type. In addition, the Program Percentile Rank will show the percentage of students who scored higher/equal to/lower than you in that program area.

The above article has provided basic information on how to calculate and evaluate the TEAS test scores. Hope you will have more beneficial knowledge to achieve your dream score on this test. Now it’s time for the TEAS practice test
